Why Support Us
The Arc of South Norfolk supports more than 2,400 individuals with disabilities and their families within more than twenty communities.
Donations to our Annual Fund support enhanced social, recreational and therapeutic programs traditionally unavailable to people of all abilities.
We have over 75 full-time staff; 85 part-time staff and 145 volunteers who are committed to providing exceptional supports on a daily basis.
We are constantly evolving with new programs, more involvement and support within inclusive community settings-which is more efficient and promotes understanding of differences.
We were founded by a group of concerned parents in 1954, and today we continue to lead the Commonwealth in advocacy and empowerment initiatives for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Self-advocates drive our mission with active participation in support groups and within leadership positions on our Board of Directors.
Our 30,749 square-foot, universally designed building serves as a model for therapeutic centers across the country. It features spacious and naturally lighted indoor areas, accessible hallway windows and accessible flora and food gardens, courtyards and patios.
We are a Global Giving Vetted organization and have received the Gold Seal of Transparency from GuideStar; and are accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
